Plants Don’t Grow According to Plans – Why Would You?

Discover 3 life lessons from growing plants — embracing change, slowing down, and following your own light.

I recently started my journey with plants. 🪴

As a child or teenager, I had no experience with plants besides overwatering a few cacti 🌵…

When I moved into my new home, I bought a few succulents and received a few more as housewarming gifts.

As of now, I own 11 plants and grow basil, mint, and rosemary separately. 🌱

At first, I didn’t give much thought to my plants; I simply wanted to bring life, color, and warmth into my home.

But I had no idea what I got myself into.

A few weeks after buying my first succulents, I noticed tiny new sprouts on each of them.

I was surprised. I knew they would eventually grow, but I wasn’t prepared for how quickly it would happen.

Since then, I’ve been following their growth daily-and learning powerful lessons along the way.

Below are my favorite life lessons plants have taught me.

🌿 1. Plants Constantly Change

Just like you and me.

On a cellular level, you’re not even the same person who started reading this article.

It may sound overwhelming, but change is not a part of life-it is life.

When we understand that change is the process, we can live with more grace, compassion, and ease.

✨ Questions to Reflect On:

  • What parts of you are you holding onto that no longer serve who you are becoming?

  • How might life be easier if you saw change as life itself instead of something to control?

  • What story do you tell yourself about change—and is it empowering or limiting you?

🌿 2. Plants Don’t Rush

They follow their own timing.

Plants grow when they are ready, not when external conditions demand it.

They don’t rush. They don’t compare.

They simply follow their natural rhythm-something we often forget to do.

✨ Questions to Reflect On:

  • Where in your life are you rushing, and why?

  • What would it feel like to trust your own rhythm?

  • What pressures are you responding to that don’t truly reflect your inner timing?

🌿 3. Plants Follow the Light

For plants, sunlight means life.

They don’t chase trends or external approval—they instinctively grow toward what nourishes them.

Plants know what they need and have the quiet courage to move toward it.

✨ Questions to Reflect On:

  • Where in your life are you being drawn to light but holding yourself back?

  • What distractions are keeping you from your inner knowing?

  • If you followed only what gave you energy and inspiration, what would change?

Final Thought:
Plants don’t grow according to plans—they grow according to their nature. 🌿

Neither should you.
